Hey everybody! No live show this week because Darren wasn’t willing to make a small sacrifice and broadcast in the middle of the night. (kidding) Michelle conducted an excellent interview that you all should listen to. Leave questions here in the comments and Darren will answer. (I love speaking for our guests) We will be back next week with a live broadcast. Enjoy!!
I’ll check this out later. Darren is a great guy. He jumped on a Skype call with me months ago just to show me his mic and camera so I could make the right buying decision for my own equipment. I still remember that kindness and the fun chat we had afterwards.
When he said he mentioned the manuscript search for the word “almost” I had to smile. My list of words to check for is a page and a half long. Some are to make sure they’re not overused throughout (“looked” or “sighed” or “paused”), some to make sure aren’t used too closely together (“moved” or “glanced” or “seem”/”seemed”Β and describing what people’s “eyes” are doing) and other words that are just so weak (“very” is a word that I can usually get rid of 95% of the time, leaving only those “very”s in dialogue — as well as “just” and “probably” and those “thought”-verbs that are so tempting when figuring out mysteries). I keep adding to it, so my editing will just take longer and longer as I go on.

You gave me the night off…..we’re drinking and playing strip poker, duh!
(We do not drink, nor do we play poker.)
michelleread Okay, just strip then?
He IS very kind, yes. And btw Patrick, so are you!
Naturally. But only three times, because you know. Three kids.
michelleread Yes and hosts a podcast. A very difficult job!
My pleasure π
Apparently.
That’s what she said
MrJohnRead There he is!!!
Thanks for the podcast. You did a great job, Michelle.
ElianneAdams I keep telling her that but she doesn’t believe me.
Well, I heard you were asking for me by name.
Thanks…..he says a lot of really comforting things. Reassuring!

You shush. I believe you. I just never “learnt” how to take a compliment! Geeze.

michelleread Kevin wrote some terrific posts. We need to start that again.
And here’s one from me, that has nothing to do with the interview.

MrJohnRead too scared to click
NoNo, it’s just music. π
MrJohnRead Coldplay, I’m good with that.
I thought @writerwade was taking the night off, quality time with the wife or some such thing?
Look forward to next week, I’ll bring the jokes.
Night all
MrJohnRead Night John and Michelle
I DO NOT AGREE WITH ANY OF THE THINGS THAT THIS GUY SAID. I BELIEVE HE USED TRICKS AND GAMES TO SELL HIS BOOKS. 1 STAR!
ALSO HIS BOOKS ARE NOT EDITED. IF YOU READ PAST THE SAMPLE YOU WILL SEE.

A page and a half! Wonderfully thorough. (<– hope thorough isn’t on the list.)
