We will be going live with guest, Laura Fredericks in around 20 minutes! See you soon.
Hey there you crazy kids
Howdy
What’s up dudes?
Going to try watching this from the middle of nowhere in North Dakota with no broadband.
Hello, checking in from the great state of Texas.
Gong live in…5, 4, 3, 2, 1….
I see everyone is already lined up and ready to release those comments . đ
Trish McCallan Release the HOUNDS!
I like awesomeness.
Also, Dave moved the camera and I like it.
Where the heck is Dave broadcasting from?
maryeihla Orlando, FL – in front of a live studio audience.
His new office.
Someone tell John that David just called him a circle jerk.
If anyone has any questions for Laura, please let us know in the comments.
Carl Sinclair He’s looking way too professional. I liked the hedgehog look.
I missed a bit of her description because baseball, but is there going to be a way for authors to post stuff that isn’t related to the writing prompt?
Greetings! It seems they started on time today đ
gregorylynn I think she just answered this now. Did that answer your question Greg?
Carl Sinclair gregorylynn Sort of, but it sounds like everything has to be either a prompt or one of these games and to be honest I am only half paying attention because baseball, but is there a way to say post the first chapter of a book or something?
there’s a crowdfunding site being talked about, and yet ZC Bolger is nowhere to be found. Â I’m severely disappointed
FINALLY! Something I can be good at!
Sounds like this would be perfect to the prolific writers, but not so great for the writers who may be creative, but like to hone and polish their work.
I think this site will seriously depend on if they put some ad money into getting readers there. Â I wonder how wattpad did it. Â That would be a good model to copy to get readers
So there is a new prompt every day? Does the “old” prompt remain? Like, is it archived somewhere? Do writers continue working on it, or does it only last the day?
Are they going to offer promotional opportunities on the site? Like posting book covers and blurbs along the borders?
Hello, all. Tad bit late, I know.
Trish McCallan She did say that every author would have their own promo area, links to their websites and such
crissymoss Trish McCallan Yeah, I heard that. I mean more like cover ads along the borders like they do on fresh fiction or just romantic suspense, or even digital books today.
Anyone have any other questions for Laura?
I would love it if they got a Bookbub part 2 thing going
My witty comebacks are hindered by all this engaging information. Sigh.
RemarkableReads Yeah, that would be very cool. And this site could have the potential to do something like that.
Trish McCallan RemarkableReads I agree
xgranville You and me both…
Wowza. That’s impressive.
Yes, Brandon Sanderson. The man is amazing. Went to his book signing. Told him that as a reader, I love him, and I think he’s amazing. As a writer, I said “I hate your stupid, stupid guts.” He laughed. I was proud of me.
Carl Sinclair Trish McCallan RemarkableReads frankly, if anyone can become the next bookbub i’ll take it.  i’d love to have 12 bookbubs, one for each month
shroudbetween I feel the exact same way.
RemarkableReads Carl Sinclair Trish McCallan That would be amazing.
How about Hugh or Amanda
Shot a man in Reno just to watch him die…
coreyrma Oooo! Good ones!
Johnny or sean?
shroudbetween Shot a die in man just to watch him Reno.
https://twitter.com/describli
Carl Sinclair Signed up. Boom!
What’s your star sign? *snicker*
Yeah, sounds really interesting.
Oh man! Writer Death Match could be its OWN site and YouTube channel.
I hope you succeed describli.  contact @zcbolger to get crowdfunding tips
xgranville Just not as entertaining to watch….
shroudbetween xgranville Just requires the RIGHT amount of KY Jelly.
where the heck are Dowis and Ward? Â The table isn’t so round tonight.
RemarkableReads Quite obtuse.
Comments section, EXPLODE!
Dave, what’s up your butt?
shroudbetween DESCEND, MINIONS!
http://boingboing.net/2011/08/05/write-an-adventure-novel-in-three-days-the-michael-moorcock-way.html
Honestly, I think the authors that are freaking out about Kobo are being really unprofessional. Kind of separates the chaff from the wheat in my opinion. I’m watching the Twitter accounts of very well established authors, and they’re just BASHING Kobo. Seems… I dunno, disrespectful. Wrong. *shrugs*
shroudbetween I agree. Haters are hating, as per usual.
shroudbetween I think its because finally people have something negative to say about Canada haha
xgranville shroudbetween Haha, likely, yeah. Oh Canada and your poutine! Y U NO KOBO?!
http://rachelintheoc.com/2013/10/how-much-can-indie-authors-realistically-make/
Writing in bed is awwwwful. I’ve stopped for the sake of my back and neck.
midlist authors can realistically make 3-5 a month. Â there are a couple hundred that do it every month.
Carl Sinclair Oh, yeah, I really like Rachel
RemarkableReads I would LOVE 3-5 dollars right about now haha.
RemarkableReads Want. So badly want. Just struggling to get traction at this point… It’s tough working full time and trying to do this.
Has anyone tried Dragon
I discovered I’m terrible at blogging, apparently. No one cares for my article writing style =P
I agree that writing is more important than anything else…
coreyrma Yeah, I’ll use it every now and then if my hands are hurting.
xgranville on a scale of 1 -10 how good is it.
http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/1535887?et_mid=642728&rid=244127681
crissymoss Agreed. I’ve become the same way on all my social media. I’m done trying to get the mass follower thing. It’s empty. They’re not worth anything. I’d much rather have people following me because they’re interested in what I’m doing, and I’d much rather follow people I’m interested in, rather than have my feed filled with crap.
shroudbetween RemarkableReads it’s amazing.  sometimes you can go from making 500 to 1800 to 3000 in just  three months
coreyrma xgranville I’d say 7-8. You really need to enunciate so if you’re not much of a clear speaker, the learning curve, or training your Dragon as they call it, can take some time. If you are a slow typer but a clear speaker, its great.
I think if 100k people were copying it, I don’t think she’s a new author… I couldn’t pay people to copy my stuff at this point =P
Digital piracy is a joke. they can make a PDF from the book.
shroudbetween crissymoss I thought followers were like Pokemon. Gotta catch em all.
I think it helps more than it hurts.
RemarkableReads shroudbetween *weeps* That’s the goal
coreyrma Carl uses that. He sad it works pretty well.
So she’s willing to lose 30% of her potential readers to avoid the book getting pirated? That makes no sense. Alot of ebook readers won’t buy print, so she auto-loses those readers by not producing an ebook.
crissymoss coreyrma Carl sads a lot of things.
RemarkableReads shroudbetween I’m basically doing everything I can at this point to GET to that stage.
With popularity comes the pirates. Its inevitable really.
Trish McCallan Some people just don’t understand how things work. Very narrow-sighted. Unable to see the big picture.
Trish McCallan Some trad authors are now saying their e-book sales are as high as 50% now…
shroudbetween RemarkableReads sometimes it’s just having enough content out there that you reach a saturation point.  other times it’s trying a new genre.  i’ve seen it work either way
Carl Sinclair Trish McCallan I think they are in some genres. Romance being one.
RemarkableReads shroudbetween I’m doing both =P Don’t get me wrong, this is not me being impatient. Just expressing my desire for such a thing. I can wait for it to hit. Sooner or later… Just keep putting out quality stuff.
samuel l jackson reading dinorotica
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmmIZZmgJfM&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLhqgmULUQG6GF6T9P_7fyB48dtemLyidYÂ Â Â Â Mike from Breaking Bad reading Fairy Tales.
I read on my phone. Samsung Note 3.
coreyrma Ditto. Samsung Galaxy SIII
shroudbetween RemarkableReads what genre do you write in?
I read on my Kobo almost exclusively.
shroudbetween I also use cool reader app to read it to me when I am in my car.
RemarkableReads shroudbetween I’m shopping a YA UF to agents to be traditionally published. On Amazon I finished the first seasons of a darker fantasy serial, a sci-fi serial, and I’m in the middle of a humor UF serial. The next serial will be a dark, serious UF serial.
I’m New
coreyrma Welcome!
coreyrma shroudbetween Hah! A friend tried to have it read one of my serials to him, and he turned the pitch all the way up, and the speed all the way down. We couldn’t stop laughing for fifteen minutes. He then went on to base a D&D character off of that voice. Needless to say… he never got around to reading my episode. =P
Yeah, yeah, damn Canadians. I wish the government gave us free Kobos haha
shroudbetween RemarkableReads do you have any non serials?  it could be that.  i dunno.  hopefully your sales pick up.
I’m down for afterparty! I’ll get nekkid in Dave’s absence
if you did it in the afternoon, you’d lose some live viewers
RemarkableReads shroudbetween I have two sci-fi books I wrote a few years ago that I need to go through and rework. I’ve grown as a writer since then, and I just don’t think they can hang.
DO IT LIVE! FUCK IT!
This Canadian cares. That’s what we do.
xgranville Thanks
I don’t know that Dave can do a threesome of podcasts on Friday
Cheers guys, It’s been a good episode. Take care everyone.
send me an invite please Mr. Hedgehog kevinmichael3@gmail.com
Eric Guindon not coming on for an afterparty eric?
Dave is just setting it up now
After party me
coreyrma What’s your email address corey – Dave will need it.
I’m down for a hang. Don’t know how long I’ll be on but I’m around.
Carl Sinclair Coreyrma@gmail.com
coreyrma Carl Sinclair invite coming
No Canada love?
coreyrma Carl Sinclair You should have it now Corey.
I’m down for das hangen outen as well. Scott Richards on G+
shroudbetween should be sent
anyone else want an invite?
Great podcast as always, guys. On the timezone thing, let me know when suits and I can try to be awake for it. I may look a little dishevelled though đ
SimonCantan We aren’t having a podcast this week (because Halloween), but maybe the next week. Our normal time is thursday, 7pm PST. I don’t know what that would be where you are.
Let us know. We can adjust a little bit for you too. I think Carl was going to send you an email about it.
crissymoss SimonCantan 7pm PST is 3am CET, which is kind of the most awkward time possible, when it’s a weekday. Later would be better, cause then I can just get up early for work at 5am or something. We can work it out, though.
SimonCantan crissymoss Yep, it’s going to be awkward for someone because Carl is in Australia, a couple people are on the east coast, and couple are on the west coast of the USA.Â
But we’ll figure it out.
crissymoss SimonCantan I did think of something that *might* be funny. You know at award ceremonies when actors can’t be there and they record a quick acceptance video. I could do one of those đ
SimonCantan crissymoss That would be hilarious. If Carl could figure out how to show it.
crissymoss SimonCantan That’s  a good idea. Let’s do that, it will be hilarious. Keep it brief though. Like 2 minutes. If you upload to YouTube we can probably show it live (AND) put it on the site for the show notes.
Carl Sinclair crissymoss SimonCantan Okay, good, I’ll record a brief acceptance speech and send you the link, Carl.
SimonCantan Carl Sinclair crissymoss Sounds good. There is no show this week because of Halloween in the US, so if you can get it to me before then, I can put a post up on the site or something.
Carl Sinclair SimonCantan crissymoss Oh, I was going to wait and do it on the weekend, since there was no show.
